What to Do if Worried about Your PIP Implants

What to Do if Worried about Your PIP Implants on The Good Surgeon Guide

Whether you know have PIP breast implants or not, the news over the last couple months is enough to scare any woman who has ever undergone breast surgery.  If you do have breast implants and are not sure on what to do next, here is our recommendation:

1. Register for the Good Surgeon Guide Breast Register. By registering you are giving yourself a peace of mind knowing that you will be notified of any future recalls, as well as receive the latest news on breast surgery and PIP controversy.

2. Check your medical notes to see what kind of breast implants you have. If you do not have your notes, contact your clinic or GP and they must supply you this information for FREE. If you received your PIP implant from NHS, you will have received a litter post operation.

3. Visit and speak with your GP or private clinic and discuss what is best for you, especially if you have breast lumpiness, swelling, changes in shape, deflation, redness, pain or tenderness to the touch. If you are worried and would like to have your implants removed (not replaced), but the clinic refuses then speak to your GP. The NHS will remove implants if your doctor agrees there is a medical need.

Unfortunately, to have implants replaced you may need to eat the cost. Again, consult your doctor or the clinic where you had your implants and enquire straight away. Some clinics may do replacements for free, depending on the situation.
