London (Tuesday, 21 February 2012) - Good Surgeon Guide, the UK’s only independent Cosmetic Surgery/ review website, received nods by the Department of Health last Friday when it was announced the website would be used to help facilitate messages directly to and from PIP victims.
It is but one of the resulting decisions made from a meeting between the Public Health Minister Anne Milton and four women PIP patients held last Friday, where it was critically expressed that there needs to be a singular point where victims and the government can connect, help and educate each other on further breast implant issues.
Representatives from the Good Surgeon Guide and officials from the Department of Health were also in attendance to the meeting, which helped guide this decision.
During the meeting, the four women spoke about their experiences with their PIP Breast Implants/ and the challenges they have faced trying to receive any treatment since the news of the recall broke nearly two months ago.
More specifically, they informed the health minister the extent to which GP's were unwilling to provide necessary help, such as scans of their breasts or even to discuss health concerns each one may face with the PIP Breast Implants/. In short, the four women expressed feeling like second class citizens and a viewed as a drain on NHS resources.
The decision to use Good Surgeon Guide will help women with PIP Breast Implants/ have a voice, help educate the government and others.
"It has clearly been a difficult time for the PiP victims. It was a positive conversation and we pledge to work together to ensure women are supported and have good timely information about PiP implants and the Department's position," said a spokesperson for the Department of Health Services.
Echoing the statement, a spokesperson from the Good Surgeon Guide said, "We are pleased to be well placed to help consumers find accurate information from the department of health, whilst working alongside them [DOH] to ensure they fulfill their obligations to the PIP ladies."
