Details about Extended (Distal) Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass

The Roux-en-Y procedure is a fairly new to cosmetic surgery, patients who have the Roux-en-Y gastric bypass surgery ideally lose 70% of their excess weight. The patient will eat less and quickly begin to shed the excess fat due to a lesser calorie consumption and a smaller stomach size.

The actual procedure involves making the top half of the stomach into the shape of a pouch with the use of staples or sutures. The stomach pouch is closed and attached to a Y-shaped section of the small intestine. The connection bypasses main points in the digestive system to effectively cut out the digestive process so that lesser calories are absorbed from food and smaller amounts of food are needed.
