A face lift technically known as a rhytidectomy is one of the most popular procedures carried out today, the surgery involves the removal of excess facial skin from around the neck, chin and cheek areas. The goal of a facelift is to smooth out the wrinkles and tighten the tissue underneath, creating the appearance of a more youthful face. The effects of a facelift last for about seven to 10 years and the face will continue to age in a natural pattern.
The surgeon will first separate the skin from the fat and muscle underneath with an incision made in the temple area and which continues down following the curves of the ear and around the earlobe. The surgeon will then remove or reposition any excessive fat, tighten the muscles or surrounding tissues and lift the skin pulling it back and trimming off any excess. Liposuction is sometimes used to trim excess fat to give the face a sleeker look.
