LASIK is a form of laser eye surgery, it is popular with people that no longer want to wear glasses or contact lenses. The technique has been developing since 1950. It is a quick and easy procedure requiring just a few anaesthetic eye drops and the option of a sedative to relax you. Firstly a small flap is made to reveal the centre of the cornea, this can be mildly uncomfortable. Sometimes small blood vessels may burst causing bleeding into the white eye, this is harmless and nothing to worry about and will resolve itself naturally. The cornea will then be reshaped using the laser. At this stage you may feel slightly disorientated as your vision will become very blurry .The flap is then carefully replaced and will heal itself naturally in time. After surgery a few simple eye drops are required and you are asked to wear shades to protect your eyes from bright light. When researching LASIK on the internet you will come across stories of failed cases and complications so you should weigh up the possible risks and consequences before opting for LASIK.
