Lingual braces are a great alternative to the standard braces often referred to as train tracks for adults who decide they want to straighten out their crooked teeth and improve their smile.
Lingual braces are just like standard braces except that they are invisible as they are placed on the backs of the teeth instead o f the front.
They perform exactly the same function as standard braces, of continuously applying a gentle amount of pressure to the teeth slowly moving the teeth into their desired position. Unfortunately not all orthodontists are trained in the fitting of lingual braces so you may have to travel to find one.
They are also more expensive than standard braces as the brackets have to be individually made as the backs of the teeth vary in shape from person to person. There are a small number of people whom lingual braces are unsuitable for including those with very small teeth.
Lingual braces take 1-3 years to move the teeth into the desired positions the same as standard braces, the time been dependent on how displaced your teeth are originally. Each case is different but you can expect to pay anywhere between £3000 and £6000 to achieve your perfect smile.
