Details about Lipoplasty

Lipoplasty also known as liposuction, liposculpture, suction lipectomy or simply lipo is the procedure of transporting fat out of the body from multiple areas. The most common sites for this type of surgery can range from the abdomen, thighs and buttocks, to the neck, chin, backs of the arms and elsewhere.

However several factors limit the amount of fat that can be safely removed. There are negative aspects to removing too much fat, such as unusual lumpiness in the skin can be seen in those patients over-suctioned. Also post surgery excess skin that has been stretched by fat content can be a problem and importantly the more fat that is removed, the higher the surgical risk to the patient.

There are many different types of liposuction and most of them involve a stainless steel suction tube called a cannula being inserted into the body underneath the skin but above the muscle tissue, the fat is sucked through the tube and collected by a machine. Liposuction is often accompanied by a tummy tuck as the reduction of fat can leave some areas saggy with excess skin.
