It is particularly popular amongst women but also with men to try and obtain a tan during the summer months. There are various techniques for this from sunbathing, sun tanning salons and fake tan, each presenting different levels of risk. A new treatment meant to give your skin a darker, more tanned appearance is Melanotan. Melanotan stimulates melanocytes which produce the pigment, colour, in our skin. The more melanin that is present in your skin, the darker skin tone you will have. Melanotan is injected at home into the stomach, it then stimulates the melanocytes in all areas of the body. After a few weeks of treatment you will start to see the results as the skin darkens. Many people believe that this is a safe way to tan, as there are no UV rays involved, which can lead to skin cancer. However unfortunately they are wrong, Melanotan has not yet been approved as a safe method, it is still in the testing stages. Despite this fact it is very easy to get hold of on the internet priced cheaply at about £25 per kit. Melanotan can also effect hair pigmentation and appetite. It is known to suppress the appetite which some women may see as a positive if they are trying to lose weight for the summer.
