Details about Mole removal

Many people have moles present on their skin; some have been there since birth others are in response to the sunlight. • People may opt to have their moles removed for cosmetic reasons if they are feel they spoil their appearance or you may be required to get them removed for medical reasons as they may become cancerous. • There is more than one method used for mole removal, one is simply cutting the mole out and stitching up the area, another is to use a hot tool which burns the mole away. • Laser treatments have been tried but they generally don’t penetrate deep enough into the skin to remove moles. When you have a mole removed a white scar will usually form but this should be less obvious than the original mole. • For the procedure you will be given a topical anaesthetic to numb the area. After surgery a bandage and topical antibiotics will be applied to the area to aid the healing process. It is common practice for the removed tissue to be sent to a laboratory for testing, just in case of any abnormalities. If the mole is removed for medical reasons it will be free on the NHS, otherwise you can expect to pay about £250 per mole.
