Photofacials are procedures that use light to treat skin conditions such as acne and broken capillaries that often act to lower a person confidence. One example of a photofacial is a LED photofacial, the light boosts collagen production which creates plumper looking skin and removes wrinkles and lines so that you appear younger, it can also be used to kill the bacteria that cause acne. The treatment is painless and relaxing and is often carried out in day spas. More than one treatment is required to achieve the desired results. Another example is intense pulsed light. This can be used to treat spider veins and redness on the skin, again conditions that can lower a persons confidence. However unlike the LED photofacial the IPL photofacial is described by many as a painful experience. A bright blast of light is delivered at very high energy levels through a hand held device towards the skin. Some IPL machines have cooling devices which can help lessen the pain but it is still seen as an uncomfortable procedure by most. However despite the associated pain an IPL photofacial is more effective at treating spider veins and facial redness, so no pain no gain. Numerous treatments may be required dependent on each individual case.
