A word which caps together a number of great treatments which involve exposure to some type of light, whether it be everyday light, a laser or a fluorescent lamp, most try to improve the skin. Acne can be treated by UV light as a free radical is produced which acts to kill the bacteria that cause the acne. Skin inflammation in conditions such as eczema can be reduced by exposure to sunlight as UV light suppresses the immune system, and therefore also suppresses the inflammatory response. Low level laser therapy has been proven by some to help with the healing of wounds. Light therapy can also treat mood related disorders and sleep problems. Light therapy is also commonly used to treat babies who are born with jaundice. There is another definition of photo therapy, this is the usage of photos to evoke feelings and memories and deepen the communication you can have with a therapist. Some therapists are trained in this type of photo therapy, they believe it helps their client to open up more, the therapist is then able to gain more of an insight into their life and their clients problems.
