As we age the skin loses its elasticity as the collagen breaks down, it then sags in certain areas, particularly below the chin, wrinkles also form. Thermage is one skin tightening technique which helps you to restore a more youthful look. • One surgeon observed that if skin is heated in a controlled fashion, collagen contracts causing a tightening effect without damaging the cells or causing burns, this is the principle by which Thermage works. Thermage uses a radio frequency electric current to produce heat this causes the collagen to contract. • Another technique which is used to tighten the skin is TITAN, TITAN works by using an infra red light to heat up the dermis of the skin, this again causes the collagen in the skin to contract therefore tightening the skin. • After the procedure, new collagen continues to form which results in further tightening and the development of a more youthful, complexion with less lines and folds and a tighter appearance. The results only last around a year before further treatments are required. SkinTyte is yet another example, it uses infrared thermal heat to stimulate the growth of new collagen and also the tightening of existing collagen, and results can be seen after just one treatment.
